Married with (Occasional) Roommates
Becoming nomads helped us rediscover communal living
It started with an offhand comment by our friend Chuck early in our nomadic lives:
“If you need a place to crash for a few days between nomadic journeys, you’re welcome to stay in our guest suite.”
Bill and Chuck are long-time friends from our former hometown of Phoenix, Arizona, in the US. Because Lisa and I frequently pass through town, it was a generous and convenient offer.
We took them up on it several times. Each time it because more comfortable for us to exist in their space. Soon we found ourselves eating dinner together, playing corn hole, and cry-laughing over episodes of Taskmaster—we hadn’t laughed so hard in years. Living together gave us an organic experience that we hadn’t had when simply getting together for a few hours for dinner or a game night.
Lisa and I were checking out AirBnb options for an upcoming six-week stint in Phoenix when an idea occurred to us—what if we asked Bill and Chuck if they would rent us their guest suite?
